Medicine Dance

  • Private Event Space - you will receive the address after registering (map)

Medicine dance is a type of somatic movement that can benefit the body and mind in profound ways, including stress reduction, relieving anxiety and depression, and fostering greater body awareness. Non-goal-oriented movement for the sake of movement facilitates mind-body connection, a sense of well-being, and a greater connection to yourself. This freestyle movement is accompanied by live music informed by a shamanic journey. Like the dancing, the music is completely improvised, creating a shared creative, and inspiring experience for everyone.

Jessica Steinbomer will set the circle and provide gentle guidance to bring you into a deeper place of mindfulness and body awareness. Jason Traweek provides the sounds and drumming to guide your experience as you move through your journey. This is open to everyone, no prior movement experience is needed.

*Note* - This is NOT an ecstatic dance. Rather, this is a contemplative dance where the focus is inward. Eye contact, touch, and spectating are discouraged in this setting. We are together but on our own journeys.

Space is limited to 15 participants. Pre-registration is required. The address and instructions will be sent to you once you have registered.

Location: Private dance studio in the Travis Heights neighborhood, Austin, TX
